If you don't already know, I'm going to live there. After I graduate undergrad, I plan on packing up and moving out West. Well maybe not right after I graduate... but soon thereafter hopefully. The fear is that if I don't do it soon after graduation that I will wimp out and be on the East Coast forever. Not that that's a horrible thing... living in North Carolina (preferably Currituck County). Actually those would be the only two places that I really want to live. They're both my favorite place to pretend to be a photographer.
The Outer Banks was probably one of the first places that I began taking pictures when my dad brought out his old film camera. I mean, really, who doesn't like beach pictures? It's probably because I've spent a good majority of my childhood down in Southern Shores (between Kitty Hawk and Duck), but there is something extraordinarily beautiful about the area. It's the same with any beach, but I'll just go ahead and admit that I am biased to this specific beach because it helped raise me. Oh childhood... being a pain in the ass since the 90s.
Either way... these are my favorites of my documentation over the past few years. The boat is our neighbor's and it just sits there, but it's great for color and texture. Plus it's great for having something different in the composition other than sand, water, and sea oats, though those never fail to be beautiful all the same. I didn't get to go down this past fall (which was truly a tragedy), so these are from maybe like 2006-2009.Well after watching the entire Jay Leno show, it was all made worth it by Augustana's performance at the end playing Steal Your Heart. Just made me that much more excited for the show at the end of May. Absolutely a beautiful performance hands down. Listen to it or I will punch you in the face. :)
Also, in light of this beachy themed post ( can you tell I miss summer? )... here are some beachy tunes.
- Xavier Rudd (very west coast... wonderful at the guitar. makes you want to pick up surfing)
--> Messages (source of post title)
--> Let Me Be
-Steve Miller Band- The Joker ( an oldie but a great song, reminiscent of Stephanie/Kelly beach trip circa 2005 )
-Bobby Darin- Beyond the Sea (as if the title doesn't associate enough, Nana and I used to listen to this and Mack the Knife and Up a Lazy River on the drive down when I was a youngin' ) these are classics. not to be disrespected. long live big band music
Need to go do that Access project due tomorrow... whoops. Hello ECL!
